- Application:
-
- Symptom: Device names appear and disappear rapidly or don't appear at
- all in the Chooser.
-
- Problem: This is caused by a Chooser limitation on the number of
- names that can be displayed. It occurs when too many
- devices of the same type reside in the same zone -- it has
- been observed with more than 15 device names of 12
- characters average length. Information on device, zone,
- and name limitations in the Chooser can be found on
- AppleLink in the Apple Support/Technical Information Icons.
- The search syntax under Technical Information is "Chooser
- Names". The file name is "Chooser: Device, Zone, and Name
- Limits".
-
- Solution or
- Workaround: Divide the AppleTalk network into zones containing fewer
- services, or reduce the number of characters in some or all
- of the device names. If the problem is related to multiple
- print queues on one server (all of which must reside in the
- zone of the server's internal network), reduce the number of
- queues on that server or rename the queues with shorter
- names.
